How this is calculated

Man hours = crew x hours per day x days. Cost = man hours x burdened rate. Rescheduling divides the same man hours by the new crew, which assumes the work can genuinely be done in parallel.

Frequently asked
Can I always shorten a job by adding people?

No. The arithmetic parallelises even when the work does not. Sequential trades, a single crane, curing time and workspace limits all cap the crew that can usefully be on site, and past that point more people slow the job down.

Should I use base wage or burdened rate?

Burdened, always. Base wage understates real cost by 20 to 40 percent once taxes, insurance and benefits are counted, which is enough to turn an estimated profit into a loss.
