The grid

One million cells. Smooth as 100.

The spreadsheet is virtualized, so a sheet with 40,000 rows feels exactly like a sheet with 40. Hierarchies, nine column types, inline editing. Everything you expect, none of the lag.

Rows 1-18 of 40,000 in view · 18 in the DOM

A real Wisegrid sheet. Only the rows on screen are rendered. So the 40,000th feels like the first.

Virtualized rendering

Built to stay smooth at 40,000 rows

Wisegrid renders only the rows in your viewport, so scrolling stays fluid no matter how big the sheet gets: no pagination, no “load more” spinners, no waiting.

Capacity
1,000,000 cells per sheet: 2× Smartsheet. 40,000 rows, 600 columns, included.
How it scrolls
TanStack Virtual keeps only the on-screen rows in the DOM, so a 40k-row sheet scrolls at 60fps.

Row outline

Outline your work, level by level

Tab to indent a row under its parent, Shift+Tab to pull it back out. Collapse a branch to focus, expand it to dig in. The structure is yours to shape.

Indent & outdent
Tab / Shift+Tab, up to 10 levels deep. Parents roll up their children.
Per-user collapse
Expand and collapse are yours alone, so you each see the level that helps you.

Typed columns

Nine column types, each with the right editor

Every column knows what it holds. Numbers get a spinner, dates get a picker, dropdowns and symbols get a menu, contacts get a people picker, formulas get the formula bar. The editor matches the data.

Nine column types
Text, number, date, checkbox, dropdown, multi-select, symbol, contact, and contact list, plus formula. Mix them freely across a sheet.
Type-aware editing
Each type opens its own editor inline, so entry is fast and the data stays clean.

Cell formatting

Style any cell on its own

Formatting lives at the cell, not the column. Two cells in the same column can look completely different: bold, italic, underline, text color, fill color, alignment, font, and number or date format. Set a conditional rule and Wisegrid re-colors cells as the data changes.

Per-cell control
Bold, italic, underline, text and fill color, alignment, wrap, font, and number or date format, applied to a single cell or a whole selection.
Conditional rules
Cell and row rules that recolor automatically as values change, so a status turns red the moment it slips. Format painter copies a look across cells in a click.

Range tools

Select a range, drag, and fill

Click and drag to select a block of cells. Grab the fill handle and Wisegrid spots the pattern: 1, 2, 3 keeps counting and dates step forward by the same interval. Copy and paste move clean, Excel-compatible TSV.

Multi-cell select
Drag to select, Shift+click to extend, ⌘/Ctrl+C copies Excel-ready TSV.
Drag-fill
Detects number and date patterns, and falls back to a clean copy when there isn’t one.

Import & export

Bring the spreadsheets you already have

Drop in a CSV and the header row becomes your columns. Any that don’t exist yet are created for you. Export the whole sheet any time, batched server-side so size is never the bottleneck.

CSV import
Header row maps to column names; missing columns are auto-created on the way in.
Export anytime
Download the full sheet as CSV, generated server-side in batches, so it scales.

Frequently asked
How many cells can one Wisegrid sheet hold?
A single sheet holds up to 1,000,000 cells and 40,000 rows, twice the 500,000-cell, 20,000-row ceiling Smartsheet puts on the same work, at one flat price. There is one Wisegrid plan at $19 per editor per month with that full ceiling included, and a 7-day free trial so you can try the real grid before you pay.
Does Wisegrid get slow when a sheet has tens of thousands of rows?
No. The grid is virtualized, so only the rows in your viewport are actually in the page. A 40,000-row sheet keeps the same fast scrolling as a 40-row one because the browser is never asked to draw rows you cannot see. There is no pagination and no "load more" button.
What column types does Wisegrid support?
Ten: text, number, date, checkbox, dropdown, multi-select, symbol (like the red, yellow, and green balls), contact, contact list, and formula. Each column knows its type and opens the matching editor inline, so dates get a picker, contacts get a people picker, and numbers get a stepper.
Does every cell in a column have to be formatted the same way?
No. Formatting is per cell, not per column, so two cells in the same column can look completely different. You can set bold, italic, underline, text color, fill color, alignment, wrap, font, and number or date format on a single cell or across a selection. Conditional-formatting rules go further and recolor cells automatically as their values change, and the format painter copies a look from one cell to others in a click.
Can I create indented parent and child rows like Smartsheet hierarchies?
Yes. Press Tab to indent a row under its parent and Shift+Tab to pull it back out, up to 10 levels deep. Expand and collapse are per person, so your collapsed view never changes what a teammate sees. CHILDREN, PARENT, ANCESTORS, and DESCENDANTS formulas read the outline the way Smartsheet’s do.
Can I import my existing spreadsheet into Wisegrid?
Yes. Drop in a CSV and the header row becomes your columns, with any missing columns created for you on the way in. Excel workbooks import too, including multi-tab files. If you are coming from Smartsheet, the dedicated importer brings whole sheets, formulas, and attachments across for you.
Can I export a sheet back out of Wisegrid?
Yes. You can export the full sheet as CSV or Excel at any time. The file is generated server-side, so a large sheet is never limited by what your browser can hold. Your data stays yours to take with you.
Does drag-to-fill work the way it does in Excel and Smartsheet?
Yes. Grab the fill handle on a selection and Wisegrid detects the pattern: 1, 2, 3 keeps counting and dates step forward by the same interval. When there is no obvious pattern it falls back to a clean copy of the source cells, so you never get a surprise value.
Can I select a block of cells and paste it into Excel?
Yes. Drag to select a range, or Shift+click to extend one, then copy. Wisegrid puts it on the clipboard as tab-separated values, which is exactly what Excel and Google Sheets expect, so the paste lands in the right rows and columns.
How does Wisegrid grid capacity compare to Smartsheet?
Wisegrid gives you 1,000,000 cells and 40,000 rows per sheet, versus Smartsheet’s 500,000 cells and 20,000 rows. Same price, more room. Cross-sheet references are generous too: 500 per sheet, included.
If two people edit the same sheet at once, will one overwrite the other?
No. Wisegrid checks for conflicts per row. If someone changed a row after you loaded it, your save returns the current version instead of silently clobbering their edit, so nobody loses work. The collaboration page covers how conflict detection works.
Does the grid support formulas, and do my Smartsheet formulas still work?
Yes. A formula column evaluates with an Excel-compatible engine, and Wisegrid is [Column]@row-native, so the same-row references Smartsheet uses come over unchanged. You can also type a cross-sheet reference inline instead of clicking through a picker. The free formula converter shows exactly how any formula lands.
Can I try the grid before I pay?
Yes. Every account starts with a 7-day free trial (no credit card required, cancel anytime), and you get the full 1,000,000-cell, 40,000-row grid during the trial, not a cut-down version. After 7 days it converts to the one Wisegrid plan at $19 per editor per month. There is also a live demo on this page you can scroll and edit right now.

Try it on your sheets.
