Threaded comments per cell

Ryan K.Founder, Wisegrid·Shipped Jun 5, 2026

Cell and row comments existed already (#28) but were a flat list. Once a review thread hit 6+ comments it was hard to tell who was answering whom.

Now you can reply to a specific comment and the reply nests one level under it, chronological within the thread. Reply to a reply and it still lands under the same top-level comment, one level deep on purpose, no runaway indentation. Delete a comment that has replies and it becomes a muted "[deleted]" placeholder so the replies under it stay readable. The thread author gets an email when someone replies.

What's still flat: @-mention notifications, per-thread resolve/reopen, and an 'unresolved only' filter. Those are separate follow-ups, not shipped here. We'd rather keep that distinction honest than imply more than we built.

Building it now. Anchoring the thread to the comment rather than the cell value so editing a cell doesn't lose context. Keeping it one level deep (a reply to a reply re-parents to the top comment) so threads don't fishbone.

Shipped: one-level reply threads on the existing cell + row comments (#28). Replies nest under the comment, deleting a parent that has replies leaves a '[deleted]' placeholder (the replies survive), and the thread author gets a reply notification. @-mentions, resolve/reopen and an 'unresolved only' filter are NOT in this. Those stay on the list. Honest scope.
