Smartsheet Pricing Explained (2026): Plans, Real Costs and Gotchas

Smartsheet costs $9 (Pro) or $19 (Business) per member a month, billed yearly. What you'll really pay for 5, 10 and 25 people, plus true-ups and add-ons.

By Ryan Kramer, founder of Wisegrid. Last updated October 2026.

Smartsheet Pro costs $9 per member per month and Business costs $19, both billed yearly. Billed monthly, they are $12 and $24. Enterprise and Advanced Work Management are priced by quote. New accounts get a 30-day trial instead of a free plan. What you actually pay depends on how many people become paid members, not on the price on the page.

Prices in this guide are in US dollars from Smartsheet’s pricing page, checked in October 2026. I build Wisegrid, which competes with Smartsheet, so the section near the end is our pitch. Everything else is here to help you plan your budget, whichever tool you choose.

Key takeaways

– Pro is $9 per member a month billed yearly, or $12 billed monthly. It allows 1 to 10 paid members.

– Business is $19 billed yearly, or $24 billed monthly. It needs at least 3 members.

– Viewers are free until they edit. When they edit, they can become provisional members, and unreviewed ones turn into paid seats.

– A team of 10 on Business pays $2,280 a year before any add-ons.

Smartsheet plans at a glance

Plan Billed yearly Billed monthly Paid members
Pro $9 $12 1 to 10
Business $19 $24 3 or more
Enterprise Quote Quote 10 or more
Advanced Work Management Quote Quote Custom

All prices are per member per month. Every plan includes unlimited free viewers. Pro stops at 10 paid members. Enterprise adds company-wide admin controls, and Advanced Work Management bundles premium add-ons such as Control Center and Dynamic View. There is no free plan for new sign-ups; some older free accounts still exist as legacy plans.

What will Smartsheet actually cost your team?

Multiply the monthly price by the number of people who edit, then by 12. The table shows the yearly total for common team sizes.

Team Plan Yearly billing Monthly billing
5 members Pro $540 $720
10 members Pro $1,080 $1,440
11 members Business $2,508 $3,168
25 members Business $5,700 $7,200
50 members Business $11,400 $14,400

The jump to watch is at 11 people. Pro stops at 10 members, so the 11th editor moves the whole account to Business. On yearly billing, one extra person takes the bill from $1,080 to $2,508 a year, the bold row above.

Members vs viewers: the rule that drives your bill

Only members, the paid seats, can create, edit and delete. Viewers, which Smartsheet calls contributors, can view and comment. On paper that makes viewers free. In practice, people outside the core team often need to change one status cell or add a date.

When a viewer edits a shared item, Smartsheet can mark them as a provisional member. That is where most surprise bills start. We explain the full rule in Smartsheet’s user subscription model, explained.

How does the Smartsheet true-up work?

A true-up is when Smartsheet adds the extra paid seats you used to your next invoice. It happens in three steps:

  1. A viewer edits something they don’t own and becomes a provisional member.
  2. Before each billing date, an admin is asked to confirm or remove provisional members. Yearly plans are reviewed every quarter; monthly plans every month.
  3. Anyone not reviewed becomes a paid member and appears on the next invoice.

If your bill went up and nobody added seats on purpose, look here first. Our page on the Smartsheet true-up walks through the review step by step.

What does Smartsheet charge on top of the plan?

  • Premium add-ons. Dynamic View, Data Shuttle, Control Center, WorkApps and Resource Management are sold separately or bundled into Advanced Work Management. Third-party pricing reviews list Dynamic View from about $125 a month and Data Shuttle at about $100 a month. Most others are by quote.
  • Support and setup. Premium support and professional services for setup and training cost extra.
  • The cell limit. Each sheet holds up to 500,000 cells. Teams that hit the limit split sheets or move to a larger plan. See Smartsheet’s 500,000-cell limit.

How to estimate your real Smartsheet cost

  1. Count editors, not logins. Anyone who changes data needs a paid seat.
  2. Add the editors you will hire this year. Going past 10 forces the Business plan.
  3. Choose yearly or monthly billing. Yearly saves $3 a member each month on Pro and $5 on Business, but you pay upfront.
  4. Add any premium add-ons you would need in the first year.
  5. Put a provisional-member review on the calendar before every billing date.

How Wisegrid prices the same work

Wisegrid has one plan at $19 per editor per month, with every feature included and viewers always free. There is no provisional membership and no true-up. Sheets hold up to 1,000,000 cells.

To be fair: if your team is small and fits inside Smartsheet Pro, Pro at $9 is cheaper. Wisegrid’s case is predictability. One price, every feature, and no seat changes you did not ask for. FAQ

How much does Smartsheet cost per month?

Pro is $9 per member per month billed yearly, or $12 billed monthly. Business is $19 billed yearly, or $24 billed monthly. Enterprise and Advanced Work Management are priced by quote.

Is there a free version of Smartsheet?

Not for new accounts. New sign-ups get a 30-day trial. Some older free accounts remain as legacy plans.

Why did my Smartsheet bill go up?

The most common reason is provisional members. These are viewers who edited something and were turned into paid seats at the true-up, because nobody reviewed them before the billing date.

Is Smartsheet cheaper if you pay yearly?

Yes. Yearly billing is $3 less per member each month on Pro and $5 less on Business.

What is the cheapest alternative to Smartsheet?

For a few people, a shared Excel or Google Sheets file costs nothing extra, but it has no summaries across sheets or permission controls. Among paid tools, the price depends on how many people edit. Count your editors first, then compare.
