Weighted percent complete32.0%By budget. This is the one to report.
By task count43.8%Treats a 2-hour task as equal to a 2-week one
Task count overstates by11.8%A large gap means the easy tasks went first
Budget remaining$102,000.00
How this is calculated

By count = complete / total. Weighted = budget of completed tasks / total budget. Where the two diverge, the weighted number is the honest one, because finishing fourteen small tasks is not the same as finishing fourteen big ones.

Frequently asked
Why not just ask the team?

Self-reported progress clusters at 90 percent and stays there. Weighting by budget or duration removes the judgement call, which is the point: the number stops being a negotiation.

Should I weight by budget or duration?

Budget if cost is the constraint, duration if the deadline is. Both beat task count. Running both and comparing them tells you whether your expensive work and your long work are the same work.
