It does not tell you the blocking for the wall-hung vanity made it in, because the inspector was never told a vanity is going there. At the footing and slab stage, check rebar size, spacing, and cover against the structural drawings, since rebar sitting on the ground pours into the bottom of the slab and might as well not exist. Confirm anchor bolt placement while the concrete is wet enough to matter, and look at waterproofing and perimeter drainage before backfill buries both.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Framing.<\/strong> Check plumb, level, and square with a level, not your eye, and check member sizes and spacing against the structural drawings, especially headers and engineered lumber, because a sawn 2\u00d710 where an LVL belongs looks identical from six feet away. Then check what drywall will hide forever: blocking where the drawings show grab bars, cabinets, and handrails; protection plates where pipe or wire passes through studs within reach of a drywall screw; firestopping in penetrations between floors. Each is a thirty-second fix now and a drywall repair later.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MEP rough-in.<\/strong> The highest-stakes walk on the project, and the last time you will ever see the plumbing, wiring, and ductwork, so the standard is different: photograph every wall and ceiling cavity, wide enough to identify the room and close enough to read the work. Check drain slopes, pipe support spacing, and that pressure tests are holding on gauges you looked at yourself. Check box locations against the electrical plan, ground-fault protection in the wet areas, and that duct joints are sealed. The photos prevent the argument, two years from now, that the leak must be from your scope.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Insulation and envelope.<\/strong> Insulation only works at full depth: look for compression behind wiring, voids around boxes, and unsealed penetrations that turn an insulated wall into a chimney. Outside, the sequencing rule is absolute: flashing and weather barrier laps get inspected before cladding. Water runs downhill, so every layer must lap over the one below it; anywhere it laps under, you have built a funnel into the wall.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Finishes.<\/strong> Now the work is visible, and the technique changes: raking light. Hold a light at a low angle to walls and you will see the fastener pops, seams, and roller marks that overhead light hides. Check tile for lippage, floors for flatness and transitions, doors for even reveals and latches that latch. Operate everything: every window, every door, every drawer. Finish complaints are the loudest category at handover because they are the only defects the owner can see.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Closeout.<\/strong> Verify the site itself: grade sloping away from the building, downspouts discharging where the drainage plan says, sealants continuous. Inside, run the systems, not just power them on: heat and cooling to temperature, water to fixtures, appliances through a cycle.
